3 Types of Fire Sprinkler System

sprinklerUtah is known for its natural beauty, making it one of the top tourist destinations in the country. With thousands of visitors all year round, there is no question Utah has also become home to some of the top hotels in the world. And as part of hotel security, they are required by law to install fire sprinkler systems.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, sprinklers are a highly effective medium of a building’s fire protection system, controlling 96% of the fires where sprinkler systems are installed. So make sure to get the services only from trusted and certified sprinkler installation companies.

How does it work?

The fire sprinkler is just one part of the entire fire prevention and protection systems. When a fire breaks out, smoke detectors are the first line of defense. It triggers the sprinkler system once it reaches a certain temperature, usually between 135 and 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

The sprinkler head on the affected area will open, extinguishing the fire and prevent it from spreading. Depending on the system setup, sprinkler heads from unaffected sections won’t trigger unless it also detects a rise in temperature. This is to limit the damage only on the affected area.

Wet pipe system

The most familiar of all fire sprinkler systems is water as it has the fastest reaction time, the most cost-effective, and easy to maintain. However, installing this type of system is not advisable in cold places since the pipelines full of water might freeze, according to companies offering sprinkler installation services in Utah such as Utah Sprinkler.

Dry pipe system

Working the same way as wet pipe systems, installing a dry pipe system is a better option in a much colder environment. Once the compressed air is released, it will release a larger amount of extremely pressurized water. But that would also mean bigger pipelines and a larger budget.

Foam sprinkler system

As suggested by its name, once triggered, the sprinkler system will discharge a mixture of foam and water. It is used for special situations where highly flammable materials are present.
